Real Swimming Lesson Here!!

Hey mommies!!

Did you watch Nona last Sunday? There was a segment on teaching Bella how to swim.. Whoever missed it can watch it on TontonTV. Its from Nona Episode 21🙂 I still get a lot of questions on how to teach your baby to swim. So here I put it down in written.. well, not me actually. This was written by Bella’s daddy. I guess he is my guest blogger now!! Hehehhe.. I just inserted pictures in between it😀

So, here you go..

“Teaching your babies how to swim ….

Babies stayed for 9 months in the mother’s womb filled with water ( amniotic fluid ) , hence its only natural  that babies will feel at home when they are being brought back to the water environment . Its important to teach babies how to swim at an early age . In fact the earler the better for them . Babies are born genius and they can adapt very well to their surroundings .

But why do we teach our baby Isabella to swim at a very early age ? Many parents out there worry that they might drown or gulp plenty of water which can be dangerous .   There’s no doubt that you cant simply throw the babies into the pool and expect them to float by themselves . You need to know the technique on how to do it .

Here are some tips on how we teach Bella how to swim and dive underwater at the age of 6 months .

We started Bella at the age of one month starting in the bathtub . We filled the bathtub with water till it reaches upto the face covering both her ears while we lay down Bella and stabilize the neck to prevent her from swallowing any water . The idea is to make the baby comfortable in the water .

Once Bella is comfortable which lasted for 2 weeks , we decided to go to the next step. We give Bella an instruction “ Bella , Ready , Go ! “ and we pour water with a cup of water onto her head and flowing down on her face . By doing this , the baby would start to know when to hold her breath . There are times when water goes into her mouth and the babies will start coughing . Stop for a while until they become comfortable again . We did this everytime its bathtime for Bella and that means 5-10 times of pouring the cup of water per session three times per day . The purpose is to teach Bella to hold her breath each time she heard our instructions “ Bella , Ready Go ! “ .

By the time Bella is 4 months we knew she was ready to go into the pool .

Bella loved the water as she had waterbirth . This eases our process to introduce her into the pool. Make sure the temperature of water is right . Wear a thermal cloth if necessary . If the baby is comfortable and not showing any signs of stress like crying , you can start the next step.

By saying out loud “ Bella Ready Go ! “ bring the baby underwater for a short duration .

As time goes by , you can increase them to 3 secs , 5 secs even upto 10 secs as how Bella is able to do now . But remember !  Safety to the baby is the top priority .  And never leave the baby alone unguarded or unsupervised …..

Starting to teach the baby to swim has many advantages . It increases muscle tone, , bone development and even IQ ! Most importantly it might help the child to save their own lives or others in the future .

Best of luck on your babies .

And remember … its never too late to teach your child on how to swim”

So, that’s from little B’s daddy…

While at the pool phase, we called up a professional coach to teach Bella since mommy is like a chicken in the water. Hhahaha.. To be honest, I was worried to put her underwater and daddy can’t be doing it alone. So, we decided to hire someone to teach Bella with daddy. That’s where Albert, Bella’s coach came in the picture. Now Bella is doing great underwater.

Our Pride and Joy :)

Probably some of you have seen this from my husband’s FB page or from my twitter page😉 Bella’s underwater picture.. No she is not yet swimming but she’s able to hold her breath and open her eyes underwater. She seem very comfortable and enjoying it🙂 We are still waiting for more pictures from her swimming instructor but bear with this one for now..

Little B Goes Pro

Dear readers!!

Holaaa…. and assalamualaikum wbt🙂 I haven’t been writing for almost a week.. It has been a super hectic week and everytime I come back from work, I fell asleep. Most of the time, I fell asleep while brestfeeding Bella. I can’t remember who slept first, me or little B (must be me then!!) I don’t even realized when the daddy pick her up and put her in her cot. Hahaha.. Yes, it was THAT bad!! Today is my free day before another oncall tomorrow.. It’s my precious day with my little family!! Hooray!!

So, I wanna update you with B’s progress😉 This week, on April 4 to be exact.. she started crawling forward!!! Did you hear that?? FORWARD!! Hahaha.. Setapak dua and terpeleoot balik.. but it’s ok.. at least she is moving forward, kan!! She is getting better in using her knees to push herself. Alhamdullillah🙂

And.. we have enrolled Bella for a swimming class!! Baby swimming class!! Haha.. after all the reading and studying from DVD and youtube.. We finally settled for a swimming instructor for B. Hahah.. We just don’t have the guts to do it ourselves… Hahaha.. Yes, I worried too much when it comes to B. Mak-mak kan.. biaser lar🙂 I think we should just let the professional handle her.. So far she had 3 sessions.. and she loves it!! Of course daddy was with her in the water all the time… Mommy cheerleader jer🙂

For the babies, the most important thing, you need to teach them how to hold their breath underwater.. Started with 3 seconds and now she can hold up to 7 seconds *proud mommy moment*

Yes, that’s how it’s done.. Mula-mula seram jugak tgk instructor nie rendam little B.. Now getting used to it😉

B’s Busy Busy Day!!

Today is a very busy day for B.. She entertained mamatok and babatok who came and visit her late morning..

Then off to her music class with mommy..

Hang out at the Starbucks while waiting for daddy to pick us up..

Later, swimming with daddy..

Had dinner around 7pm..

and this is what happened at 7.30pm..

Busy B!! Poor little Bella…

Mermaid In Training :)

I don’t know how to swim!! Hahahah… Ikhlas ni bagitau😀

On the other hand, my husband is a professional swimmer. He represented Malaysia in SEA Games when he was 10 years old in swimming. Taddaaaa… Hahhaha..

We have decided to teach Bella to swim at very early age.. Sometimes I think we are very kiasu parents😉 So, we bought this book titled How To Teach Your Baby To Swim.. Keyword here is BABY!! Yes, not need to wait until 5 or 7 or whatever age.. baby can swim!!

We have started familiarize Bella with water at very early age. If I’m not mistaken, it was when she was about 2 weeks old, right after her umbilical cord detached😀 ~super kiasu!!

This is her picture when she was less than 1 month old, listening to her daddy brief her on how to swim.. Hehehhe…

That’s Bella again at less than 1 month old.. She definitely loves water..

Once she’s ok with water. we put her in this floating device for baby which surrounds her neck nicely and let her float in the pool🙂 Nope, don’t worry, she wasn’t alone in the pool. Daddy was in there too.. In this position, she will learn how to use her legs and hands.. This was at 2 month old..

We also did this in the bathtub.. while allowing her to float, we slowly introduced water from the shower tap. This is to train her to close her eyes and hold her breathe under the shower tap.

Faking the current in the jacuzzi😀 Serabai kan rambut Bella. This was taken at about 3 month old before we decided to fully shaved her hair.. We are running out of hair style for her!! Hehehhe…

Up until now, Bella loves to chill by the poolside..

No she doesn’t know how to swim yet. At this point of time, she is comfortable being in the water. She is still learning how to use her hands and legs to swim. We would love to bring her to the pool more often but unfortunately work (and bad weather!!) always interfere.. Haih… Biler nak pandai nih??

I would love to hear from anyone who has experience teaching their baby swimming at early age🙂

So, now.. who wants to teach ME how to swim??😀

P/S: Please please please don’t simply do like what I wrote here unless you have read the book “How To Teach Your Baby To Swim” or you know signs of aspiration or CPR!!
