Fish with Carrot and Orange!!

B has been eating a lot of chicken and beef lately… and very little of fishes family. Hahaha.. Mommy lar malas masak! But recently I found another easy fish recipe from Annabel Karmel’s cookbook, so I decided to give it a try.. It’s called Fish with Carrot and Orange! Yes, orange ;)

First, steam the chopped carrots and potatoes until tender. Steam is better than boiling coz it will preserve more of the nutritions as compared to boiling method. Sorry I forgot to take picture for this step! Heheh.. But I guess you all know how it looks like, kan!!

Next, put the fish in a dish. Here I sure red snapper fillet. Sedap kan ikan merah! But I bought the fillet version of it coz I doubt my skills to debone the fish :D Sebelum Bella tercekik, better I just buy the fillet version, confirm no bone!! Pour over orange juice. You can just get an orange and squeeze it over the fish. Better cause there will be no sugar added, more natural!!

Sprinkle with grated cheddar cheese.. and dot with butter. In this case, I used unsalted butter..

Put it up in the over and cook for 20 minutes at 180′C.. OR according to Annabel Karmel’s recipe, you can just put in the microwave until the fish flakes easily.. I just believe the oven would do a better job than the microwave. Hehehe.. For me I only use the microwave to reheat the food, not really for cooking :D

Cantik kan!! Bau pun super yummy!! B’s daddy thought it was his dinner!! Haha.. Then I flake the fish with fork.. later add the steamed carrot and potato to the meal. You can blend to puree or just mash it until it softens..

For Bella, since she already has 8 teeth, I just mashed it.. It tastes really nice, fresh fish without the smell!! A little carbs from the potatoes and vitamins from the carrots ;) Give it a try mommy!

B’s First Haircut..

We just got back from B’s music class and her first haircut!! Yay!! Not easy… it’s almost impossible to get her to sit quietly.. Only in my dreams!!

We found this place, that has toy cars to attract babies and toddlers.. I thought B will be excited..!

But not for long.. within 10 seconds, she became restless and wanting something new to distract her..

One after another..

Not easy.. not easy..

Fuhh.. lucky she doesnt have lots of hair like Rapunzel..

Real Swimming Lesson Here!!

Hey mommies!!

Did you watch Nona last Sunday? There was a segment on teaching Bella how to swim.. Whoever missed it can watch it on TontonTV. Its from Nona Episode 21 :) I still get a lot of questions on how to teach your baby to swim. So here I put it down in written.. well, not me actually. This was written by Bella’s daddy. I guess he is my guest blogger now!! Hehehhe.. I just inserted pictures in between it :D

So, here you go..

“Teaching your babies how to swim ….

Babies stayed for 9 months in the mother’s womb filled with water ( amniotic fluid ) , hence its only natural  that babies will feel at home when they are being brought back to the water environment . Its important to teach babies how to swim at an early age . In fact the earler the better for them . Babies are born genius and they can adapt very well to their surroundings .

But why do we teach our baby Isabella to swim at a very early age ? Many parents out there worry that they might drown or gulp plenty of water which can be dangerous .   There’s no doubt that you cant simply throw the babies into the pool and expect them to float by themselves . You need to know the technique on how to do it .

Here are some tips on how we teach Bella how to swim and dive underwater at the age of 6 months .

We started Bella at the age of one month starting in the bathtub . We filled the bathtub with water till it reaches upto the face covering both her ears while we lay down Bella and stabilize the neck to prevent her from swallowing any water . The idea is to make the baby comfortable in the water .

Once Bella is comfortable which lasted for 2 weeks , we decided to go to the next step. We give Bella an instruction “ Bella , Ready , Go ! “ and we pour water with a cup of water onto her head and flowing down on her face . By doing this , the baby would start to know when to hold her breath . There are times when water goes into her mouth and the babies will start coughing . Stop for a while until they become comfortable again . We did this everytime its bathtime for Bella and that means 5-10 times of pouring the cup of water per session three times per day . The purpose is to teach Bella to hold her breath each time she heard our instructions “ Bella , Ready Go ! “ .

By the time Bella is 4 months we knew she was ready to go into the pool .

Bella loved the water as she had waterbirth . This eases our process to introduce her into the pool. Make sure the temperature of water is right . Wear a thermal cloth if necessary . If the baby is comfortable and not showing any signs of stress like crying , you can start the next step.

By saying out loud “ Bella Ready Go ! “ bring the baby underwater for a short duration .

As time goes by , you can increase them to 3 secs , 5 secs even upto 10 secs as how Bella is able to do now . But remember !  Safety to the baby is the top priority .  And never leave the baby alone unguarded or unsupervised …..

Starting to teach the baby to swim has many advantages . It increases muscle tone, , bone development and even IQ ! Most importantly it might help the child to save their own lives or others in the future .

Best of luck on your babies .

And remember … its never too late to teach your child on how to swim”

So, that’s from little B’s daddy…

While at the pool phase, we called up a professional coach to teach Bella since mommy is like a chicken in the water. Hhahaha.. To be honest, I was worried to put her underwater and daddy can’t be doing it alone. So, we decided to hire someone to teach Bella with daddy. That’s where Albert, Bella’s coach came in the picture. Now Bella is doing great underwater.

Panic Mommy!!

On a telephone conversation with my husband:

Hubby: Bella demam. She drank only 1oz milk this morning. Makan pun tak byk.. Coughing still..

Me: *panic button pushed* OMG!! We must bring her to the doctor!! *in a high-pitched tone*

Hubby: We are doctors, aren’t we? *blur*

Me: *gulp* Lupaaa!!! I was totally in my mommy mode. Forgot I’m a doctor.. Hahahha..

Hubby: ….

Chicken, Sweet Potato and Apricot :)

This time I’m gonna share another of B’s favourite food.. As usual, I like to try Annabel Karmel’s recipe. It’s easy to make and super yummy!! :)

You gotta have boneless chicken, diced sweet potato, dried apricot, carrot, chicken stock and tomato puree.. Simple and quick.. promised!

First, heat up your cooking olive oil, saute a few slices of onion and boneless chicken until sealed. Then you add your sweet potato with some amount of chicken stock (at least until all your sweet potato and chicken are covered). Add a few slices of dried apricot, tomato puree (secukup rasa) and slices of tomatoes.. Bring to the boil and simmer for 12-15 minutes..

And blend until smooth as you wish :)

Look at Bella’s face.. that’s how much she loves this chicken with apricot and sweet potato meal ;)

BFF Get Together

I was out with my BFF yesterday after work (L-R : me, Dr Elly, Dr Rey) it has been awhile since we met up with each other.. work, family and more work delays our get together sessions. It was just a short session cause we only manage to meet up after finish work, around 5pm until maghrib prayer time before rushing home again..

Back at home, I knew there was no more frozen food for B but I just had to meet up with my girlfriends!! It so hard to catch all three available at the same time. So I decided to just let her daddy feed her with bottled food from Heinz! Hahahha… (Hey!! everyone screw up sometimes, right?) Daddy said ok coz he knew I haven’t been seeing my girlfriends for quite sometimes..

Poor daddy had to face all the drama.. Bella refused to take the bottled food. Penat daddy pujuk Bella ngangan mulut nak makan but she just refused!!

Hahahha.. I don’t know who to kesian.. daddy or Bella :D I reached home around 7pm, cooked for B her favourite meal and She’s a happy baby!! Hehehehe…
